In the underlying sting, the duo addressed themselves as intrigued vehicle purchasers at numerous showrooms in nearby towns, to test drive vehicles with no intention of purchasing them, they presented false identity and insurance documents. They didn't return the vehicles. Officials in the state of Colorado referred to the duo's crime as the "never ending commute."
